What is First Secure?

First Secure is a new online security feature that is a standard part of your Online Banking log in experience. First Secure consists of two parts: a Secure Key and a Secure Cue.  The Secure Key helps prevent unauthorized access to your accounts while the Secure Cue assures you that you're at the valid First Bank Online Banking site. Both parts help protect you, whether you're signing in to from your own computer, or from somewhere else (such as work or a public library).

Why is First Bank implementing First Secure?

As part of our ongoing commitment to help protect you against identify theft and fraud, First Secure helps to ensure your information is secure by protecting you from fraud and identity theft in two ways, a Secure Key and a Secure Cue.  The Secure Key enables us to recognize you as the true owner of your account because of the information we maintain once you register for First Secure. The Secure Cue helps you recognize that you're at the valid First Bank Online Banking site, rather than at a fraudulent look-alike site.

When you're signing in from a computer we don’t recognize, we'll ask you to select an email address we have on record to which we can send a Secure Key.  When you enter your User ID, Password and Secure Key, we know it’s really you logging in.  You will see your Secure Cue and know it's safe to log in.  This is an additional line of defense against unauthorized access to your accounts.

How do I register for First Secure?

Registering for First Secure is quick and easy. When you log in to Online Banking:

  • Select the email address you want your Secure Key delivered to.
  • Once you receive it (this should only take a few minutes) enter it along with your normal Online Banking User ID and Password.
  • Select whether or not the computer you are using is Private (work or home) or Public (library, hotel or internet café).
    • If you are using a Private computer, the Secure Cue you will see to know you are entering the authentic First Bank Online Banking site will be displayed.  Select the ‘Enter Online Banking’ button to go to the “Account Summary” page.
    • If you are using a Public computer, you will not see a Secure Cue.  You will be presented with the “Account Summary” page.

Has my password changed?

No. The Secure Key is separate from your regular Online Banking User ID and Password and only required if we don’t recognize the computer you are using to log in.

Does First Secure use cookies?

One of the ways we recognize you is by placing a cookie on your computer when you register your First Secure. The cookie contains a randomly generated, unique number used as an identifier. When you sign in after that, your Web browser sends us this cookie, which lets us know that you're using a computer we recognize. The cookie is visible only to the Online Banking site at First Bank and does not contain any personal information.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a piece of securely coded information sent by First Bank to your computer when you register for First Secure. Cookies include a randomly generated, unique number used as a sign-in or registration identifier. Every time you log in from that same computer, your Web browser sends us back this cookie, which lets us know that you're using a computer we recognize.

Will clearing cookies from my computer impact First Secure?

Yes.  If you clear cookies from your computer, each time you log in to Online Banking you will need to register your computer.

How is my online service more secure?

First Secure helps you know that you are at the valid First Bank Online Banking site before you log in by displaying your Secure Cue when entering your User ID and Password. In addition, we know it's really you signing in because we recognize your computer or require a Secure Key to identify you if we don’t recognize your computer.

What if someone steals my password?  How will First Secure prevent them from accessing my account?

If an unauthorized person tries to sign in from a computer we don’t recognize, we'll require a Secure Key be sent to an email address we have on record for you before allowing them access to Online Banking. They won't be able to access your email to get the code nor will they be able to change the email address we have on record for you.  Without the Secure Key, they won’t be able to access your account information in Online Banking.

What is a Secure Cue?

Your Secure Cue is dynamically generated based on your User ID and Password that helps you recognize that you're at the valid First Bank Online Banking site, rather than at a fraudulent look-alike site.

How do I know I’m at the authentic First Bank Online Banking site?

Your Secure Cue will confirm that you are at the authentic First Bank Online Banking site. Type the correct address (www.firstbanks.com) directly into your Web browser. When you arrive at the site and enter your User ID and Password, your Secure Cue will be displayed. That's confirmation that you're at the bank's legitimate Web site. If you do not see your or see an incorrect Secure Cue, do not log in. Since this may be a fraudulent website, please report this immediately to us at 1-800-760-2265, option 3.

What should I do if I enter my User ID and Password and don’t see my Secure Cue or it is incorrect?

If you are logging into Online Banking from a computer we recognize and have correctly entered your User ID and Password and don’t see or see an incorrect Ie, do not log in.  Contact us immediately at 1-800-760-2265, option 3.

What happens to my Secure Cue if I change my Password?

If you change your Password, your Secure Cue will also change.  When changing your Password, your new Secure Cue will be displayed to you so you know what to look for on future visits to Online Banking.

How do you know that I’m signing in from my own computer?

When you register for First Secure, we place a secure cookie on your computer. The cookie contains a randomly generated, unique number used as a sign-in or registration identifier. When you sign in after that, your Web browser sends us this cookie, which lets us know that you're using a computer we recognize. The cookie is visible only to the Online Banking site at First Bank and does not contain any personal information.

Can I access Online Banking from multiple computers?

Yes, you can access Online Banking from any number of computers. If you sign in from a computer we don’t recognize, you will need a Secure Key so we can verify that it's really you. Once you enter the Secure Key, we will ask you if you would like us to recognize that computer in the future. If you answer yes, you will not need a Secure Key when you use that computer in the future.

I share my computer with someone who also uses Online Banking.  Can both of us still sign in from this computer?

Yes. You can use the same computer to sign in to your individual Online Banking accounts safely; you won't see each other's information. Each user should see their unique Secure Cue when they enter their own User ID and Password.  There's no limit to how many people can sign in to First Bank's Online Banking from the same computer. Just remember not to share your User ID and Password.

Is there a fee for using First Secure?

No, First Secure is free. Its just another way we are working with you to safeguard your privacy and security.
