Bright Lives Healthcare Inc.

Growing a business

After six years of working in a private equity fund, doing acquisitions of senior health care assets, CEO and Executive Chairman of Bright Lives Healthcare Inc., Prabal Gupta wanted to improve the environment in which seniors with Dementia and Alzheimer’s live. “I got pretty close in observing how these facilities are run, and I was not very happy with what I saw. And so I saw an opportunity in terms of what can we do to make the lives of a senior much better in terms of their social engagement, in terms of their health, to make them happy in the environment that they are in.”

Stay true to your values

Dr. Suresh Subramani, Board of Directors at Bright Lives Healthcare Inc. says, “The first thing is that we know we want to be sure that the community that we’re serving, are happy and comfortable because ultimately that’s what we’re doing this for.” He goes on to explain that making sure families and supporters feel that they’re getting the best value for these services, is important to their company.

As technology advances, Mr. Gupta and Dr. Subramani explain how technology plays an important role in their services and explains why they decided to implement new innovations. “One is to really see how it works with the residents and to work out any of the kinks that may happen in the program. Once we know something like this works, we will start to scale”, says Gupta.

Gupta expanded on how Dementia and Alzheimer’s affects someone suffering from it. “People lose the most recent and the intermediate memory, but what they do retain in Alzheimer’s is kind of the long-term, the old memory when they were young”.  What Bright Lives Healthcare tries to do, is transport people into the era that they remember through reminiscence therapy and music. “We come to understand what kind of music they listen to when they were young […] and we try to play this music for them”. Ensuring that they’re providing the best possible compassionate care for their patients, they use a holistic approach instead of drugs.

Working with First Bank

“None of this would have been possible without the partnership that we have with First Bank”, says Gupta. “Rich Sutton, First Bank Senior Vice President, as you know, is quite the expert in the senior health care area, but when he heard what Bright Lives was trying to do, he understood that we are trying to be different […] Rich has been instrumental in kind of guiding me”. Gupta explains that he came from the corporate world, and when they found their first acquisition property, everything went smoothly.

“We’re in a happy place and hopefully soon, we’ll be looking at our second and third acquisition and we’ll be able to do more business with Rich and First Bank”.

Choose a bank that helps you grow

You don’t grow to be one of the biggest family-owned banks by standing still.  And you don’t do business for 100-plus years by forgetting where you came from, or who you’re here to serve.  Because helping clients reach their goals is our goal, and planning better for tomorrow starts with achieving more today.  For individuals, for businesses, and for the whole community.

This is what it means to be a part of First Bank.

Where being treated like family means something. Where the success of our clients means everything.  And where relationships come first.
