Employee-funded donation event raises more than $3,800 to purchase 128 electric blankets

ST. LOUIS (January 9, 2019) – Today, First Bank donated 128 electric blankets to EnergyCare, a St. Louis nonprofit focused on protecting low-income, homebound people — especially the elderly, and seriously ill or physically disabled adults and children — from illness, hospitalization or death due to winter cold or summer heat. For the past 21 years, employees have participated in the fundraiser to donate air conditioning units in the summer and electric blankets in the winter to EnergyCare.

“As the temperatures continue to drop, we often take for granted everyday essentials like blankets in the wintertime,” said Tim O’Dea, Executive Director, EnergyCare. “We are so grateful for community partners like First Bank for their continuous support. These electric blankets allow our clients to turn down their heat and save on utility bills while still staying safe and warm.”Energycare

Over the past month, First Bank employees raised more than $3,800 for EnergyCare. Employee volunteers and First Bank executives, including Ed Furman, Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, loaded 128 electric blankets onto EnergyCare trucks at First Bank’s corporate office in Hazelwood, Missouri. The blankets will soon be distributed to members of the community in need.

“We are proud to have employees who are willing to give back and better the community they work and live in,” said Furman. “EnergyCare makes a real difference in the lives of St. Louis residents, and we’re honored to have established a longstanding partnership with such an impactful organization. We look forward to many more donation events to come.”

Since 1999, First Bank employees have donated more than 2,900 blankets to EnergyCare valued at more than $78,000 and 898 air conditioning units worth over $92,000. EnergyCare provides energy-related services and information for the low-income elderly, ill, disabled and families with young children in St. Louis City and County. Donations are tax deductible.
